Alltracks lead to adventure

Insight

Volkswagen wanted to strengthen how customers understood the Alltrack range online. While the model was respected for its sleek European design, many shoppers underestimated its real capability — ground clearance, off-road drive modes, safety systems and versatile storage. The challenge was to surface these features in a way that felt premium, intuitive, and connected to the vehicle’s real strengths. At DDB, I helped translate this requirement into a series of interactive feature components integrated directly into the Volkswagen website.

Idea

The framework and base scripts already existed, but the components required careful configuration, UI refinement, and asset integration to feel seamless within the broader digital ecosystem. My contribution included:

• Creating and customising a suite of modular feature panels
Users could click through to explore capabilities such as boot space, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, raised ground clearance, driver-profile modes, and advanced safety systems.

• Integrating campaign imagery and motion behaviours
Each module paired descriptive content with photography and subtle motion transitions, giving the product page a much richer tactile feel.

• Refining the JS configuration layer
Although much of the code base was prebuilt, the configuration file needed thoughtful adjustment — mapping states, fine-tuning behaviours, ensuring component consistency, and resolving edge-cases so everything worked fluidly across models and breakpoints.

• Ensuring the components felt native to the VW brand
Typography, spacing, hover states, animation timing, and iconography were aligned to Volkswagen’s digital system so the components sat naturally within their site architecture.

Impact

The result was a far more engaging product-page experience — one that allowed users to discover the Alltrack’s capability through interaction rather than static bullet points. It strengthened the perception of Alltrack as a genuinely versatile, adventure-ready vehicle, and elevated the digital experience to match the premium feel of the brand.
